Barkolabovo Monastery turns 385
Holy Ascension Convent near the agrotown of Barkolabovo, Bykhov District, was founded in 1641. The convent is located on a picturesque lake shore, 10km from Bykhov. Currently, it is home to 16 sisters. For the past nine years, it has been led by Mother Superior Anzhelina, who came here from Polotsk Savior-Euphrosyne Convent.
On the convent grounds there is a church in honor of the Nativity of John the Baptist, a bell tower, a rotunda for festive services, a residential building with a refectory, library, and sisters’ cells. Throughout its entire existence, the monastery has remained Orthodox. People come here not only from Belarus but also from near and far abroad to venerate the Barkolabovo Icon of the Mother of God and receive a blessing.
