Commemorative events in Bereza
On 16-17 September, events celebrating the Day of People’s Unity were held in the town of Bereza. Since early morning, people had been coming to the obelisk at the site of the Bereza-Kartuska concentration camp to honor the memory of the innocent victims of the policy of ethnocide against the Belarusian people. For the town, 17 September is a special date. On that day in 1939, the camp’s prisoners were freed. It was the people who had endured brutal conditions of detention for opposing the policies of the Polish authorities. A map of Belarus has been placed near the memorial. The commemorative events continued until late in the evening and concluded with a rally and a festive concert.
