Sturgeon Moon over Belarus
The lunar eclipse on the night of 28 August coincided with the Sturgeon Moon, allowing stargazers in Belarus to witness its penumbral and minor umbral phases. Lunar eclipses take place during a full moon, a phenomenon that happens when the Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon in a straight alignment. The August full moon is called Sturgeon Moon. This full moon is also referred to by several alternative names, such as the Harvest Moon, Rice Moon, and Green Corn Moon.
