Firearms training in Belarus

Following the president’s directive to send agricultural workers who were too negligent in their duties to military training camps, special commissions were set up across various regions. For a time, these workers traded their rural lifestyle for army life. The personnel called up in early August are stationed near the country’s southern borders, in Gomel Oblast. The environment closely mimics standard soldierly life, with the men living and working in a field camp setting. They construct bunkers and engineering infrastructure with their own hands, and undergo training across multiple disciplines. A field medical unit operates 24/7. It features several beds and is fully stocked with required pharmaceuticals. The farmers practice tactical, firearms, and engineering training, as well as military medicine. The primary emphasis is on discipline. For many participants, the camp serves as a school of life, especially since nearly one in four had no prior service in the Armed Forces.
